About Something Taylored

Hoarding, I mean collecting, and refinishing furniture was just a fun hobby while I was teaching, but it turned into a business while I was wedding planning in 2018 and 2019. I have always loved a good DIY project and I believe most items can be recycled rather than thrown into the garbage, whether that means finding a new use for a worn picket fence or simply updating an old desk with a fresh coat of paint and some new hardware.

At first, I spent my free time on quick, simple makeovers like painting an antique dresser that I had found on the side of the road, but soon, I couldn’t ignore all the gorgeous upholstered pieces that were being tossed to the curb for garbage day – it was soul crushing! I knew these sofas and chairs just needed some TLC to be fabulous again! I decided to grow my skill set in order to save as many items from the dump as I could, so I taught myself some basic upholstery techniques using videos, research, common sense, and trial and error… lots of trial and error!

By the time our wedding rolled around, I had built up a decent collection, so we were able to have a mismatched lounge and a collection of 130 vintage colored goblets at our reception. We hired an INCREDIBLE team of vendors who completely transformed this empty warehouse into my dream wedding. I actually cried when I walked into the venue seeing that my vision had become a reality. I also felt a huge sense of pride seeing that my products were mingling with the work of these talented, seasoned professionals!

Now, on the other side as the vendor, I hope that our rentals, even if in a small way, can bring you that same emotional joy and excitement when celebrating one of the best days of your life!
